Using Translation

The County of San Mateo has added a translation feature developed by Google Translate to assist web visitors in understanding information on this website in a variety of foreign languages. Please be aware that Google Translate, a free third party service which the County does not control, provides automated computer translations that may not give you an exact translation. The County cannot guarantee the accuracy of translations through Google Translate so translations should not be considered exact and only used as a rough guide. Anyone relying on information obtained from Google Translate does so at his or her own risk. The County disclaims and will not accept any liability for damages or losses of any kind caused by the use of the Google Translate feature.

Illegal dumping is a serious issue that threatens the health, safety, and cleanliness of our community. By preventing illegal dumping and promoting responsible waste disposal, we can protect our neighborhoods for everyone to enjoy.

Report Illegal Dumping in Unincorporated San Mateo County

“Report It! SMC” empowers residents to report illegal dumping and graffiti in unincorporated areas of San Mateo County. This tool allows residents and visitors to report issues quickly and easily. You can even take photos of issues and submit them on your phone. These reports are then forwarded directly to County departments to respond and address.

How to use the reporting tool above
  • Make sure the Report tab is selected. Enter the address or use the map marker to navigate to the area where the issue you want to report is located on the map. (Use the controls in the upper left corner to move the map around the window or zoom in and out.).
  • Once you have indicated the address or mapped the location of your issue, click next.
  • Select a service request issue from the drop-down menu. Once you’ve entered a service request, you can then fill out a more detailed description of the issue and even attach a photograph. After this is complete, create an account where you can earn civic points, however you must enter a valid email address! After you’ve completed all the fields, press submit to create a public report of your issue!

The San Mateo County Sustainability Department is using SeeClickFix powered by CivicPlus, an online and mobile service request system. Report It! SMC is an application that allows residents to report non-emergency-related issues specifically Illegal Dumping, graffiti abatement, and abandoned shopping carts in the Unincorporated Areas of San Mateo County. This app is not for reporting property-related Hazardous Waste, Code Enforcement related issues, or abandoned vehicles.

  • Code enforcement issues: report to Code Enforcement Division 
  • Abandoned vehicles in the unincorporated areas of San Mateo County: report to the Sheriff’s Office
  • Road Hazards (street lighting outages, pot holes): contact Department of Public Works Department at (650) 363-4100

Your display name will also be visible unless you choose to submit as Anonymous. Your email address will never be displayed publicly. The County does require valid email addresses to respond to a request if the County needs additional information to process the request.
